Job Description

The Westin Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas is a prominent hotel located in Irving, Texas, offering a premier convention and hospitality experience. This role is for a Full-Time Overnight Hotel Engineer position based at the Westin Irving Convention Center. The Hotel Engineer will be responsible for responding promptly to guest repair requests, ensuring all maintenance issues are resolved efficiently and effectively, often with minimal supervision. This position involves performing preventive maintenance on hotel tools and equipment, conducting inspections, and carrying necessary tools and communication devices throughout the property. The Hotel Engineer must be proficient in several technical areas, including air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical repairs, and carpentry. The role also requires solid skills in the safe use of hand and power tools for various repair and maintenance tasks.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining maintenance inventories, requisitioning parts, and communicating issues and daily activities across shifts using approved hotel communication protocols. The engineer will conduct basic troubleshooting and repairs of all types of equipment, including pumps, motors, plumbing fixtures, electrical devices, TVs, and kitchen equipment. There is also an expectation to perform minor surface preparation and painting tasks, drywall and wood trim repairs, as well as filter replacement and cleanup duties. The position demands a good understanding of safety policies, including the proper use of Lockout/Tagout systems and handling of flammable materials.

The successful candidate will demonstrate ability in mid-level troubleshooting of hotel Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems and provide training and mentorship to junior engineering staff. Responsibilities also include performing Engineer on Duty duties, maintaining professional guest interactions, adhering to quality and safety standards, and maintaining a clean and professional appearance. Physical requirements include the ability to move and lift objects, navigate stairs and ladders, and perform work that involves bending, twisting, and stooping. The role emphasizes teamwork, communication skills, and customer service, ensuring a positive work environment and guest satisfaction.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • minimum 2 years of experience in hotel engineering or maintenance
  • universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification
  • vocational or technical background preferred
  • valid driver’s license
  • ability to work overnight shifts
  • physical ability to perform manual labor including lifting up to 50 pounds
  • knowledge of safety protocols and lockout/tagout procedures
  • willingness to comply with company policies and safety standards

Job Qualifications

  • at least 2 years of hotel engineering or maintenance experience
  • experience in general maintenance, surface preparation, and painting
  • valid driver’s license
