Position: Lead Cook
About: The Athenaeum, a private membership club located on the campus of Caltech in Pasadena, California, is seeking a Lead Cook to join their team. The club, founded in 1930, serves as a gathering place for Nobel Laureates, faculty, and scholars to exchange ideas about science, art, and literature. With approximately 3,900 members, The Athenaeum offers dining, private events, and lodging, earning recognition as a Platinum Club of America.
Requirements: Culinary certificate and a minimum of 4 years of experience in a dine-in a la carte restaurant or six years of relevant experience in a busy a la carte dining facility; Must have a valid current Food Handlers Card/ServSAFE or willingness and ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment; Ability to follow and maintain maximum standards of ServSafe sanitation and safety; Ability to carry a minimum of 50 pounds repetitively throughout the day; Must be able to cook fish, cook to desired meat temperatures, and saute; Must demonstrate positive attitude, professional demeanor, and maintain a clean appearance; Ability to communicate and follow verbal and written instructions; Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions; Ability to perform basic math operations for food production; Flexible availability for various shift times; Regularly stands and walks for sustained periods; Ability to work at a quick pace and maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously; Must have close visual acuity for detailed work assignments; Ability to work in environmental conditions such as heat and loud noise
