Position: Preschool Chef
About: Cooks at The Learning Experience in Hackensack, NJ prepare nutritionally balanced, attractive family-style meals for children. The cooks follow set menus, order food within budget, and adhere to state and federal nutritional requirements for children. The role requires physical and mental fitness to meet the demands of caring for children who may not be able to care for themselves.
Requirements: High School Diploma or GED required; ECE coursework preferred; at least 18 years of age; relevant experience in a licensed childcare facility kitchen, commercial kitchen, public school cafeteria, or equivalent; must meet state-specific guidelines for the role; have a food service/food handler’s permit or license according to state/local regulations; follow state and federal guidelines including immunizations, employment physicals, and required health and safety training; demonstrate judgment in addressing potential risks in a childcare setting; ensure children’s safety and everyday needs are met; model good social skills and promote developmentally appropriate activities; maintain high levels of composure, patience, and professionalism; physical resilience to stand and walk for extended periods, lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds, reach, stretch, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and work in varying outdoor temperatures ranging from 20F to 95F; ability to supervise by sight and sound
