Position: Assistant Chef
About: The Door – A Center of Alternatives empowers young people to reach their full potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment. The Assistant Chef role at The Door involves supporting in the preparation of meals and pantry services for students at Broome Street Academy and participants at The Door, ensuring smooth kitchen operations and adherence to health standards.
Requirements: Minimum of 5 years of cooking experience as chef, sous chef, or line cook; experience in youth development work and interest in working with adolescents required; experience working with Department of Education or National School Lunch Program required; excellent communication and customer service skills required; patience and teaching skills necessary; 1-2 years of food service management experience preferred; valid New York City DOH Food Handlers Certificate/license/card; ServeSafe certification; proficiency in safe kitchen equipment operation and Department of Health regulations; excellent managerial, communication, and customer service skills required; administrative experience required; basic computer skills including Microsoft Office required; teamwork and collaboration skills essential; strong organizational skills; ability to lift 30 lbs
