Job Description
Opal is a distinguished Coastal American Restaurant brought to you by the acclaimed team at Nina May. Situated in a welcoming neighborhood setting, Opal is dedicated to offering a culinary experience that highlights seasonality and sustainability. Our menu emphasizes vegetable-forward dishes and features a thoughtfully curated selection of fish and meat sourced from the vibrant American coastline. We pride ourselves on fostering a warm and inclusive atmosphere where community and quality are at the forefront. Our commitment to sustainability is demonstrated through close partnerships with local farmers and producers, ensuring that every ingredient used in our kitchen reflects freshness and regional authenticity.
Opal is seeking an experienced and passionate Chef de Cuisine to lead our culinary team and uphold our restaurant’s esteemed reputation. This leadership role entails overseeing all daily kitchen operations and collaborating closely with our award-winning Executive Chef, Colin McClimans, to maintain culinary excellence. The Chef de Cuisine will be instrumental in menu development, staff training, hiring, ordering, and guaranteeing that the highest standards of food quality and presentation are met consistently. This position requires a dynamic and hands-on professional who resonates with our philosophy and story.
As Chef de Cuisine, you will be actively involved in sourcing the best ingredients locally by working alongside our trusted family of farmers. Your role will allow you to harness the best seasonal produce, meats, and fish, integrating them seamlessly into innovative and appetizing offerings that appeal not only to seasoned patrons but also to new guests discovering Opal. We are proud to offer competitive wages along with opportunities for career progression and professional development to encourage growth within our team.
Joining Opal means becoming part of a growing and vibrant restaurant group where collaboration with some of the city’s finest hospitality and culinary professionals is a daily experience. We value excellence, humility, and continuous improvement and strive to create an environment where feedback from both team members and guests is embraced and transformed into meaningful enhancements. Our culinary team culture is rooted in respect, fairness, and a strong sense of belonging, supporting work-life balance and fostering achievement-oriented motivation.
Ideal candidates will showcase excellent technical cooking skills, a strong attention to detail, and deep knowledge of seasonal produce and menu development. Leadership qualities including team-oriented mentorship and a focus on staff development and retention are critical. Efficiency in kitchen production, an innovative approach to culinary artistry, and the ability to incorporate constructive feedback to refine processes and dishes are highly valued. If you are an energetic and talented individual eager to contribute to a thriving restaurant culture, Opal welcomes your application and looks forward to the possibility of working with you.
