Position: Telecommunicator / 911 Communications

About: The Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department Emergency Communications Center, located in Des Plaines, Illinois, is seeking applicants for the position of Telecommunicator. This center services a growing population of 280,000 residents expanding to 360,000 residents by the end of 2024. Telecommunicators are responsible for emergency 911 and non-emergency calls, dispatching appropriate units, and maintaining communication with various agencies and departments. The position requires the ability to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.

Requirements: Possession of a High School Diploma or G.E.D certificate; minimum age of 19; valid Driver’s License; capability to work up to 12 hours wearing a communications headset; typing skills (30 w.p.m. with 90% accuracy); successful completion of written examinations, oral interviews, hearing and vision tests, and background investigations; willingness to work all shifts and overtime; certification as a Law Enforcement Agencies Data System Operator within 90 days of hire
