Position: Preschool Chef
About: Cooks at The Learning Experience in Hackensack, NJ are responsible for preparing nutritionally balanced, attractive family-style meals for children. The cooks must follow set menus, order food within budget, and adhere to state and federal nutritional requirements for children, emphasizing the importance of being mentally and physically fit to fulfill their duties in a childcare setting.
Requirements: High School Diploma or GED required; ECE coursework preferred; Relevant experience in a licensed childcare facility kitchen, commercial kitchen, public school cafeteria or equivalent; Must meet state specific guidelines for the role including having a food service/food handler’s permit or license, following state and federal guidelines for immunizations, employment physicals, and health and safety training; Proven judgment in identifying and addressing potential risks in a childcare setting, ensuring children’s safety and meeting their daily needs, modeling good social skills, keeping children engaged in appropriate activities, and maintaining composure and professionalism; Demonstrated physical resilience including standing and walking for extended periods, lifting and carrying objects up to 40 pounds, reaching, stretching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling, supervising visually and auditorily, and working in varying outdoor temperatures; Ability to maintain mental and physical alertness and energy levels to perform essential job functions
