Employees in this job perform and oversee a variety of cooking and food preparation tasks for residents of state facilities. There are three classifications in this job: Cook 5 Level, Cook E6 Level, and Cook 7 Level. Cook 5 Level is the intermediate level where the employee performs cooking and food preparation tasks in a learning capacity. Cook E6 Level is the experienced level where employees perform a full range of cooking and food preparation assignments using independent judgment. Cook 7 Level is the advanced level where the employee functions as a lead worker overseeing the work of lower-level Cooks, less-skilled kitchen helpers, and/or prisoner workers.

Requirements: Education: Education typically acquired through completion of high school. Experience: Cook 5 Level requires no specific type or amount of experience. Cook E6 Level requires one year of experience in quantity cooking and food preparation. Cook 7 Level requires two years of experience in quantity cooking and food preparation, including one year equivalent to a Cook E6.
