Position: Assistant Director, Radiation and Laser Safety and University Radiation Safety Officer (Murfreesboro)
About: The Assistant Director position is part of the Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) organization at Vanderbilt University. The Assistant Director is a key leader responsible for managing the radiation and laser safety programs, acting as the university’s Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) under the Assistant Vice Chancellor for EHSS. The role involves providing strategic leadership for a comprehensive laboratory program ensuring a safe work environment for the research community, compliance with laws and regulations, and overseeing various committees related to safety and emergency management. Extensive interaction with university stakeholders and external agencies is also a critical aspect of the role.
Requirements: A master’s degree is required; relevant certifications such as Certified Health Physicist (CHP) and Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO) are required; 8+ years of related experience with at least 2+ years in a supervisory role is necessary; expert knowledge in radiation and laser safety, emergency response capability, advanced skills in Microsoft and Adobe products, familiarity with safety software systems, analytical skills, and strong interpersonal communication abilities are essential.
