Position: Adaptive Recreation Specialist
About: The City of Boise’s Adaptive Recreation program offers recreational, social, and educational programs for individuals with disabilities. The Adaptive Recreation Specialist is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of year-round recreation programs, events, and activities for youth and adults with disabilities under general supervision.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience working with youth and adults with disabilities in a recreation or educational environment; Knowledge of leading recreation programs, working with people across a diverse range of ages and ability levels, recreation management, general business office and telephone etiquette, computer operations, record keeping, ADA, customer service techniques, adaptive recreation equipment, budget preparation practices, and community relations; Ability to learn about adaptive sports, develop and teach classes for all age groups and ability levels, operate a computer efficiently, communicate effectively in English, and perform all assigned functions; Valid state-issued driver’s license; Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within six months of employment; Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in recreation or related field, experience coordinating recreation programs, experience working with at-risk youth, White Water Rescue certification, demonstrated history of leading white water rafting expeditions; Licensing: Valid driver’s license, CPR, and First Aid certification within 6 months
