Job Description
Sports Illustrated Restaurant Group is a dynamic and innovative hospitality company launching a new multi-concept venue in downtown Chicago. The group is set to become a premier destination known for elevating the dining experience through quality, service, and groundbreaking concepts. With a strong reputation linked to the iconic Sports Illustrated brand, this venture aims to blend sport-themed excitement with outstanding culinary offerings. The company is committed to delivering exceptional guest experiences in a fast-paced urban environment, positioning itself as a leader in Chicago's competitive restaurant scene.
The role of General Manager of Restaurant Operations is a unique opportunity to lead and shape the culture of this fresh, high-profile venue. This is a full-time, salaried position with a competitive annual salary range from $100,000 to $120,000, reporting directly to the Director of Operations. As the central figure in restaurant management, the General Manager will be responsible for overseeing all facets of restaurant operations, including personnel management, financial results, and operational execution.
This role demands a visionary leader with a results-driven mindset who can inspire and develop a high-performing team. The General Manager will set and uphold the highest standards of quality, organization, and operational efficiency while fostering a positive workplace culture aligned with Sports Illustrated Restaurant Group's values. This position requires a hands-on approach to maintaining a well-organized, customer-focused restaurant environment that delivers memorable and innovative hospitality experiences.
Key responsibilities include comprehensive leadership of recruitment, team development, and mentorship across all restaurant staff. Maintaining positive employee relations and setting a strong example of professionalism and dedication is fundamental. The General Manager also spearheads operational excellence by managing daily and weekly activities such as staff scheduling, maintenance oversight, and ensuring prompt completion of all operational duties.
Strict adherence to health and safety protocols, including food safety and alcohol service certifications, is essential. Financial stewardship is a critical component of the role, where the General Manager will manage all restaurant expenditures, produce weekly profit and loss reports for shareholders, and participate actively in sales forecasting and budget planning. Monitoring suppliers and product standards will ensure freshness, quality, and timely procurement while controlling costs and approving significant invoices.
The General Manager will collaborate closely with the Executive Chef on strategic decisions related to scheduling, training, and maintaining the facility to maximize efficiency and guest satisfaction. This partnership is vital to delivering on the venue’s culinary vision and achieving financial targets.
The role also offers a remarkable chance to innovate within the hospitality space. The General Manager will contribute to new concept development, refining the Sports Illustrated Restaurant's brand and menu offerings specifically tailored for the Chicago market. Creativity and bold execution are encouraged, helping to design a unique, memorable atmosphere that stands out in a crowded industry.
A strong interest or experience in pastry and baking is highly desired, broadening the scope of menu quality and diversity. The General Manager is expected to champion bold initiatives and continuously push the boundaries of traditional dining by offering fresh, engaging guest experiences.
Overall, this position is perfect for a proactive, innovative leader looking to make a significant impact in the restaurant industry. It offers stability, growth potential, and a chance to shape an exciting new brand from inception within a supportive, visionary company environment. The benefits include health, dental, vision insurance, paid time off, 401(k) plans, and complimentary food, making this an attractive career opportunity in Chicago's vibrant hospitality scene.
