The role of Floating Kitchen Manager at Uplift Education is critical within the Campus Operations team, specifically within Child Nutrition Programs (CNP) and custodial services. This position is based at the Central Management Office in Dallas, Texas, and offers a salary starting at $48,500. The Floating Kitchen Manager is primarily responsible for maintaining consistent and high-quality food service operations across multiple campuses. This role commands leadership over the campus CNP teams, ensuring nutritional guidelines and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations are rigorously met. Acting as a key resource, the Floating Kitchen Manager steps in as interim Kitchen Manager or Kitchen Supervisor when vacancies arise or when team members are on extended leave.

Beyond operational oversight, the Floating Kitchen Manager contributes to administrative and training responsibilities, assisting the Facility Operations Management (FOM) team with onboarding new department leaders and supporting ongoing staff development. The individual in this role will supervise and cross-train kitchen staff, manage production schedules, and ensure food safety and sanitation protocols are strictly adhered to. They will monitor inventory, production records, and cash reconciliations, working closely with directors and other stakeholders to coordinate meal service during special events such as field trips and testing days.

This position demands a professional who is both detail-oriented and motivated, with exemplary organizational and communication skills to foster a positive and efficient kitchen environment. Proficiency in using technology including Microsoft Office and point-of-sale systems is also essential. Physical demands are notable, requiring standing and walking for extended periods, lifting up to 40 pounds, and working in varied environmental conditions. The role also requires travel between campuses within the DFW area, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and strong interpersonal skills.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum 2 years experience in food service with 1 year supervisory experience
  • possession or ability to obtain SERV Safe Kitchen Manager’s Certification within 30 days
  • valid driver’s license

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
  • minimum 2 years experience in school food service or any food service including cooking, production, and inventory with at least 1 year in a supervisory role

Job Duties

  • Oversee day-to-day operations within the kitchen adhering to Child Nutrition Program (CNP) guidelines
  • supervise, manage, and cross-train kitchen staff
  • produce work schedules and manage employee absences
  • ensure storage of all food and supplies in the kitchen
  • ensure adherence to State Safety and Sanitation guidelines
  • monitor working condition of kitchen equipment
  • report work-related injuries to Risk Management promptly
  • document monthly safety training with kitchen staff
  • ensure staff adhere to standardized recipes continually
  • monitor food quality during production and service
  • ensure accurate counting and claiming methods
  • create a welcoming and friendly cafeteria and kitchen environment
  • manage production, ordering, and inventory
  • perform data entry of production and served amounts in Titan Menu Daily
  • report recipe/menu errors
  • plan food production based on records
  • monitor portion control compliance with USDA/TDA meal patterns
  • monitor inventory levels and perpetual inventory
  • handle gas credit card reconciliations timely
  • monitor food production and waste
  • perform end-of-day cash and sales reconciliations
  • adhere to cash handling procedures
  • oversee student/staff lunch account balances
  • coordinate meals for field trips and testing
  • attend required trainings
  • assist with kitchen tasks as needed
  • establish positive relationships with staff and parents
  • perform other duties as assigned by management
