The role of the retail and hospitality associate at Messina Hof is pivotal in enhancing the visitor experience and promoting the sale of Messina Hof wines within its winery facilities. This position reports directly to the General Manager and plays a significant part in fostering genuine hospitality for guests, treating them as extended family and personal friends of the Messina Hof legacy. The part-time position offers flexible work schedules and includes a competitive pay structure starting at $15 per hour during training, followed by $8 per hour plus tip share, with an average earning potential of $20 to $25 per hour after training. The successful candidate will be responsible for not only driving retail sales but also maintaining the cleanliness and appeal of the tasting rooms and guest areas.

Day-to-day responsibilities encompass greeting and educating guests on Messina Hof wines, conducting tours and tastings, hosting private parties, and encouraging repeat business to help grow the Wine Club and VIP Club memberships. Mastery of the point-of-sale system is essential, as the associate will manage cash register operations, daily sales accounting, and processing returns and discounts. Exceptional customer service skills, including courteous and professional communication with guests, co-workers, and business partners, are crucial to creating a warm and welcoming environment.

Maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and organization in all areas of the tasting room is a vital aspect of the role. This includes managing food preparation and service areas, outdoor decks, restrooms, and general guest areas. Additionally, the associate will assist in inventory control, merchandising, stocking, and ensuring all wines, food items, and gift shop products are well replenished. Flexibility to support other departments as needed and take on additional duties is expected, highlighting the collaborative nature of the team at Messina Hof.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in retail or a related field, coupled with strong customer service skills and the ability to work with personal computers for sales and inventory purposes. Current TABC (Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission) and Food Handler certifications are mandatory and must be maintained at all times. The role demands physical stamina, including frequent standing for long periods and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds regularly. The associate must exhibit excellent vision capabilities and be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in a moderate noise environment.
