Job Description
Le Jardinier @ MFAH is an exciting new French restaurant located in Houston, Texas, set to open in the spring in the Museum of Fine Arts Houston's new Kinder Building. Under the guidance of Michelin-starred Chef Alain Verzeroli, who brings over 20 years of experience working alongside the legendary Chef Joel Robuchon at esteemed restaurants like Arpège, Le Jardinier promises a unique dining experience focused on vegetable-rich dishes crafted with locally sourced organic produce and meats. The restaurant will feature an inviting open-air patio that overlooks the museum's sculpture garden, creating a serene and artistic dining atmosphere that complements its culinary offerings.
Le Jardinier is part of Bastion Hospitality LLC, a company dedicated to operating financially responsible food and beverage establishments while fostering an environment where both staff and guests feel valued and respected. The ethos of the team centers on respect, empowerment, pride, mentorship, and fun – values that underline every aspect of the restaurant's service and hospitality.
The role of Sommelier at Le Jardinier is a vital part of the dining experience, responsible for delivering exceptional food and beverage service following the brand's high standards. This position is both a leadership and ambassadorial role within the restaurant, demanding a candidate with an enthusiastic, highly motivated passion for hospitality, wine, and food. The Sommelier will set the tone for guest interactions by providing attentive and knowledgeable table service, ensuring that every guest's wine and beverage choices enhance their meal through expert guidance and pairing suggestions.
Reporting to the Beverage Manager, the Sommelier will collaborate closely with culinary and front-of-house teams to maintain an elevated experience that reflects the quality and philosophy of Le Jardinier. Duties include managing the wine list and cellar, developing and implementing training materials for staff to deepen their wine knowledge, and overseeing inventory and cost controls to maintain operational efficiency.
Le Jardinier values individuals dedicated to hospitality as a profession and passion. The establishment is committed to offering a supportive workplace environment that encourages personal and professional growth. This role invites individuals who are organized, communicative, and motivated, with the physical capability and flexibility to thrive in the dynamic restaurant environment, including working varied shifts featuring evenings, weekends, and holidays.
With its focus on sustainable ingredients, artistic environment, and Michelin-star quality service, Le Jardinier provides a unique opportunity for a Sommelier to be part of a forward-thinking team focused on creating memorable guest experiences in Houston's vibrant culinary scene. This role offers competitive benefits including comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, pre-tax commuter benefits, employee assistance programs, and other perks. Candidates looking to advance their career in hospitality with a reputable brand and a supportive professional environment will find Le Jardinier a perfect fit.
