The role of the Food Service General Worker at Welleby Elementary is instrumental in supporting the school’s Food and Nutrition Services. This position involves skilled work in preparing and serving nutritionally balanced meals that meet reimbursement requirements and production deadlines. The Food Service General Worker supports the overall mission of providing nourishing meals that are essential for student achievement and wellbeing. This includes participating in state-approved training programs such as Foundations of School Food Service, Nutrition, Quantity Cooking, and Sanitation classes.
Employees in this role demonstrate exceptional customer service skills while interacting with students, parents, school staff, and the public. They operate point-of-sale systems in compliance with federal regulations and adhere strictly to food safety and sanitation standards, including Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP). Their duties span preparation, service, cleaning, inventory management, and operating kitchen and food service equipment safely and efficiently.
The position is part-time with a daily schedule of 4.75 hours and an hourly wage starting at $15.84. The work involves medium physical duties such as lifting up to 30 pounds and requires compliance with safety and hygiene standards. Employees are expected to contribute positively to a clean and safe work environment, drive food delivery vehicles as required, and participate actively in skills enhancement opportunities.
This position requires prior food service or cashiering experience, good English communication skills, ability to follow directions, and basic computer literacy. Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a valid Florida Driver's License, and bilingual abilities. The role is classified as nonexempt under pay grade SF1121 and is governed by the policies and work calendar set by The School Board of Broward County.

Job Duties
- Follow daily work schedules for food production, service, and cleaning
- Participate in state-approved training and educational initiatives related to Food and Nutrition Services
- Demonstrate exceptional customer service and professionalism when interacting with students, parents, and staff
- Operate point-of-sale systems according to federal guidelines
- Adhere to food safety rules, departmental procedures, and HACCP standards
- Perform kitchen duties including food preparation, service, cleaning, and order check-in
- Assist with ordering, storage, and inventory management of food supplies
- Follow recipes and document food preparation activities
- Operate food service equipment safely
- Maintain cleanliness by disposing of garbage and waste properly
- Drive vans and refrigerated/freezer trucks for food delivery
- Ensure compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies
- Participate in training to enhance job-related skills
- Comply with safety rules, federal and state laws, and School Board policies
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors
