Job Description
Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana (VOAOHIN) is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive support services to individuals and families in need across Ohio and Indiana. With a commitment to fostering self-reliance and promoting community well-being, VOAOHIN operates a wide range of programs addressing housing, rehabilitation, crisis intervention, and employment services. The organization employs over 1,000 passionate and compassionate professionals who work tirelessly to make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable populations. VOAOHIN’s mission revolves around helping people rebuild their lives and reach their full potential through effective programs and personalized support.
This particular position is for an Assistant Food Service Worker role, which is focused on supporting veteran residents within VOAOHIN’s residential care programs. The Assistant Food Service Worker will play a vital role in the daily operations of the food service department by assisting with meal preparation and service. This role ensures that nutritious and portion-controlled meals are provided efficiently while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety in the kitchen and dining areas. The position is ideal for detail-oriented individuals who enjoy working in a team environment and are committed to aiding veterans on their path to recovery and independence.
The Assistant Food Service Worker will also be responsible for performing a variety of food preparation tasks beyond cooking, including cleaning and sanitizing food service areas, managing inventory, and helping with other kitchen duties as needed. Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for residents and staff is critical. This role requires a proactive approach to tasks and a strong work ethic. The organization values candidates with supervisory experience as they may have opportunities to grow within the department.
Preferred applicants should have a High School diploma or equivalent and at least two years of food service experience. Certification in First Aid and CPR is mandatory and can be obtained through VOAOHIN if the candidate does not already possess it. Veterans are especially encouraged to apply, in alignment with the organization’s dedication to providing exceptional support services to those who have served in the military. This role offers a starting compensation of $17.75 per hour and provides a chance to join a compassionate team that truly values commitment to community service and veteran support.
