The Broward County Public Schools is a well-established educational institution committed to providing quality education and supportive services to students across its diverse school district in Florida. Serving a vast community with a myriad of programs, the district not only focuses on academic excellence but also emphasizes the importance of student well-being and nutrition. One of its dedicated establishments, Harbordale Elementary School, located in Ft Lauderdale, is an active participant in these efforts, ensuring students receive proper nourishment to support their academic performance and holistic growth. Broward County Public Schools employ a spectrum of professionals who contribute to this mission, among them food service general workers who play a critical role in the daily operational success of school meal programs. This position is classified as nonexempt under pay grade SF1121, offering an hourly wage starting at $15.84 for approximately 5.75 hours daily. The work calendar follows the 192A day schedule, typical for school-year employment.

The Food Service General Worker position at Harbordale Elementary School is a vital role within the Food & Nutrition Services department. This role focuses primarily on the preparation and service of nutritionally adequate, reimbursable meals for students, adhering strictly to production deadlines and food safety standards. It demands an individual capable of performing skilled tasks in food preparation, service, and sanitation, ensuring all meals meet quality and dietary guidelines as mandated by federal and state regulations. The worker must also be proficient in operating point-of-sale systems to comply with federal guidelines and support meal service efficiency. Another key aspect of this position is maintaining rigorous sanitation and safety practices in the kitchen environment, which includes personal hygiene standards and equipment cleaning responsibilities that do not require climbing. The role occasionally requires driving vans and refrigerated or freezer trucks for food delivery between sites, adding a logistical component to the duties. The worker’s interaction extends beyond food preparation to include collaboration with students, parents, school staff, and district administrators, promoting a professional and courteous atmosphere throughout.
