Job Description
University Flower Shop, established in 1931, is a prestigious floral design studio located in the heart of Ann Arbor's historic Nickel's Arcade. Renowned for its custom floral arrangements and wrapped bouquets designed for a variety of occasions, the shop prides itself on using unique and seasonal ingredients that inspire creativity and delight customers. Beyond floral artistry, the shop offers a curated selection of succulents and botanically inspired gifts, catering to a diverse clientele. A commitment to sustainability underpins all operations, with most flowers sourced locally from Southeast Michigan. University Flower Shop is a proud member of the Michigan Flower Growers' Cooperative, reflecting its dedication to supporting local growers and enhancing the regional floral industry.
As part of its expansion in the events market, University Flower Shop is now seeking a highly skilled Event Coordinator & Producer. This role focuses on overseeing all facets of event sales, customer service, and event production to ensure seamless experiences from conception to execution. Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in event planning or floral design industries, combined with a strong passion for the craft and sales acumen. The position demands exceptional leadership skills, organizational prowess, and a proactive mindset committed to teamwork and high work ethic.
Key responsibilities include managing event sales initiatives, including outreach to wedding venues and planners throughout the Metro Detroit area to generate new business opportunities. The successful candidate will serve as the main logistics and client liaison for diverse events such as University of Michigan functions, corporate gatherings, bridal and baby showers, and weddings. Utilizing Dubsado CRM, responsibilities extend to onboarding clients, coordinating meetings, managing payment processes, and ensuring client satisfaction throughout the event lifecycle. Moreover, the role requires hands-on involvement in event production, providing on-site design, delivery coordination, floral product management, and setup to bring client visions to fruition flawlessly.
This full-time position operates primarily Tuesday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, with mandatory Saturday availability to manage event installations. The position offers an hourly wage ranging between $25 and $35, determined by industry experience. Additional benefits include wholesale flower purchasing rights, paid overtime, five days of paid time off annually, and holiday leave during major holidays such as Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Weekend, and the entire period from Christmas Day through New Year's Day. Candidates should exhibit detail orientation, multitasking capabilities, efficiency, and a drive for both personal and professional development, making this a rewarding opportunity for those passionate about event coordination and floral design within a historic and sustainability-focused business.
