This role is specifically within HomeGoods, a proud branch of TJX focused on home furnishings, décor, and seasonal items, tailored to deliver an inspiring and enjoyable shopping experience. The position offered is that of a Store Cleaning and Floor Care Associate, responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized store environment. This role requires maintaining high standards of floor care by operating machinery such as scrubbers and buffers, performing dust mopping, damp mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and spot cleaning of glass and windows. Beyond floor care, the associate is expected to uphold overall cleanliness and organization standards throughout the store including key areas such as the sales floor, single queue, associate lounge, backroom, and restrooms.

The role also includes cross-training in other areas such as front end, backroom, and sales floor operations, supporting coverage where needed to keep the store operating smoothly. An emphasis on excellent customer service, safety awareness, adherence to company policies especially related to health and safety, loss prevention, labor laws, and operational procedures are critical components. Exceptional communication skills and a positive, respectful attitude are essential to support the store culture and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

Working hours for this position require flexibility to accommodate business needs including variable scheduling. Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects, operate floor care machinery, multitask, and respond effectively to unexpected situations are key to success in this role.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in retail or cleaning preferred
  • Ability to operate floor care equipment such as scrubbers and buffers
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Must meet physical stamina requirements to handle cleaning tools and machinery
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to follow health and safety guidelines and company policies
  • Willingness to be cross-trained and work in multiple store areas
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Reliable and punctual

Job Duties

  • Role models established customer experience practices with internal and external customers
  • Supports and embodies a positive store culture through honesty, integrity, and respect
  • Maintains all floor care cleanliness standards including the maintenance and operation of the scrubber and buffer
  • Maintains all organizational, cleanliness, and recovery standards for the entire store, e.g. sales floor, single queue, associate lounge, backroom and restrooms
  • Adheres to all company policies concerning health and safety (includes the refilling of all essential items in the lounge, restrooms and front end)
  • Cross-trained in other areas of the store (backroom, front end, sales floor, etc.)
  • Supports and responds to all front end coverage needs
  • Adheres and upholds merchandising philosophy and signage standards
  • Initiates and participates in store recovery as needed throughout the day
  • Adheres to all operational and loss prevention controls in accordance with company guidelines and policies including shrink reduction
  • Communicates accurately and effectively with management and associates
  • Adheres to all labor laws, policies, and procedures, including associate meal and break period policies
  • Participates in safety awareness maintains a safe environment
  • Other duties as assigned
