Job Description
The Raleigh Convention and Performing Arts Center (RCPAC) operates four unique venues known collectively as The Complex, which includes the Raleigh Convention Center, Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts, Red Hat Amphitheater, and Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek. Located in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, these venues serve as important cultural, economic, and community gathering destinations. The Red Hat Amphitheater (RHA) is a premier outdoor venue with a seating capacity of 6,000, hosting concerts and major productions that contribute significantly to Raleigh's national prominence as a cultural hub. The RCPAC team is committed to operational excellence, focusing on vision, flexibility, and community engagement to elevate Raleigh’s brand as a cultural and economic destination.
The Events Planner position at the Red Hat Amphitheater is one of two key roles responsible for the overall production, execution, and safety of all events held at the venue. This role involves comprehensive coordination and oversight of event logistics, including scheduling, staff coordination, equipment management, and onsite event operations. The planner works under the supervision of the Amphitheater and Special Events Manager and is tasked with managing event budgets, client relationships, and ensuring adherence to city and facility policies and regulations. The position requires a flexible work schedule, especially during the concert season, which includes nights, weekends, and holidays to accommodate event needs.
Ideal candidates for this role must demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, a customer service orientation, and the ability to work well under pressure. They should be adaptable, resilient, and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining professionalism. This role requires proactive problem solving, conflict management, and the ability to build and sustain effective relationships with clients, vendors, and internal teams. The planner is also responsible for researching and implementing industry best practices and trends in event management to continually enhance the venue’s operational standards.
Physical demands of the position include occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, working in both office and outdoor environments, and occasionally dealing with challenging situations such as extreme heat or irate individuals. The City of Raleigh promotes equal employment opportunities and provides accommodations for individuals with disabilities, ensuring an inclusive workplace environment.
This role is an excellent opportunity for professionals with a background in technical theatre production, event management, or related fields who thrive in dynamic, high-energy environments and want to contribute to the success of Raleigh’s vibrant performing arts scene. With its focus on client service, operational excellence, and community impact, the Events Planner position at the Red Hat Amphitheater offers a rewarding career path in event production and management.
