The Sous Chef position at Home Team BBQ - Downtown is a full-time role pivotal to maintaining the high standards for which the restaurant is known. Reporting directly to the Executive Chef and Culinary Operations team, the Sous Chef is responsible for overseeing all back-of-house operations during their shifts. This leadership role ensures consistent food quality, operational efficiency, and adherence to the restaurant’s policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will possess at least five years of kitchen experience, preferably with a background in leadership positions, and hold a Serve Safe Certification.
As a Sous Chef, you will lead by example, fostering a professional and positive work environment through punctuality, preparedness, and a strong work ethic. You will supervise kitchen staff, manage food preparation and execution, and assist in menu development and ongoing staff training. Collaboration with front-of-house leadership and direct communication with servers are essential to ensure a seamless and exemplary guest experience.
Your responsibilities also include maintaining labor and food cost standards, overseeing inventory and ordering systems, and managing workflow and corrective actions as needed. Specific shift duties involve taking charge as the Opening Chef, Mid Chef, or Closing Chef, each with their own set of tasks such as overseeing prep, leading lunch service, managing staff transitions, or running dinner service and closing procedures.
This role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to stand for up to 95% of the shift, bend and stoop frequently, and lift at least 40 pounds. To succeed, candidates must demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills along with the ability to interpret and execute operating procedures effectively. In return, Home Team BBQ offers an enriching career opportunity where passionate culinary professionals can grow, learn, and contribute to a celebrated brand dedicated to excellence in food and service.
