Job Description
CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - San Marcos is a well-established healthcare institution that traces its origins back to 1923 when it began as the Hays County Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Memorial Hospital. Today, it operates at its current location on Wonder World Drive, providing high-quality medical services to the Hays County community. The hospital employs over 700 dedicated associates and collaborates with more than 300 active and consulting physicians. For more than 20 years in a row, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa has been honored as The Best Hospital in Hays County by the San Marcos Daily Record's annual "Best of Hays" publication. This recognition reflects the hospital's commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare services.
The hospital is a leader in various specialized medical areas including interventional cardiac services and is recognized as a Certified Chest Pain Center as well as an accredited Primary Stroke Center. It is also at the forefront of innovative surgical techniques, leading the region in da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery. In addition to these specialties, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos provides a broad range of healthcare services such as medical imaging, rehabilitation, hospice care, and women's health services, ensuring a comprehensive approach to patient care.
The role of the Pharmacy Technician at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - San Marcos is critical in supporting the pharmacy department under the direct supervision of clinical pharmacists. The position demands a compassionate, efficient, and precise approach to providing pharmacy services. Pharmacy technicians play an integral role in medication management, including preparing drug orders, maintaining accurate medication records, compounding pharmaceuticals, and issuing controlled substances in compliance with legal and institutional policies. This part-time position operates with work hours from 7 AM to 7 PM and requires an individual to perform technical duties without judgment, relying on close pharmacist oversight.
This role also encompasses specialty functions such as working in ambulatory care and retail pharmacy settings, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and supporting clinical interventions targeting areas like intravenous to oral conversion, renal dosing, pharmacokinetic dosing, and anticoagulation management. The position involves frequent interaction with various hospital departments to ensure safe, appropriate, and cost-effective drug therapy.
Pharmacy technicians at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital must maintain their professional competency, including holding a valid technician license and certifications pertinent to their duties. The environment exposes the technician to certain occupational hazards such as potential contact with hazardous drugs, needlestick injuries, and musculoskeletal strain, which demands adherence to safety protocols. This role requires a commitment to ongoing education and active participation in staff meetings and training sessions to sustain high standards of pharmaceutical care and patient safety.
