The Cook role at Razzoo’s is a critical position responsible for fulfilling food order tickets by preparing, seasoning, and cooking complex menu items. This includes a wide variety of foods from soups and sauces to vegetables, meats, and desserts. The position demands a high level of attention to detail and adherence to established recipes and food safety protocols. Cooks must work efficiently, maintaining a sense of urgency to meet the restaurant’s stated cook times without compromising quality. Responsibilities include following a 'Cook To Order' philosophy to ensure freshness and optimal taste, utilizing scales and measuring tools for exact portions, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen at all times. The role also involves using various kitchen equipment safely, handling food items properly to ensure sanitation, and adhering to all food handling and safety guidelines.

Additional duties involve routine cleaning responsibilities, proper waste disposal, and reporting any unsafe conditions or procedures to management. Physical demands include standing and walking during the entire shift, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders for access, and working efficiently in a noisy kitchen environment while maintaining accuracy and manual dexterity. The role offers a starting pay rate between $9 and $17 per hour, with benefits such as discounted employee meals, paid time off (PTO), health benefits, and participation in a 401k savings plan with employer matching, depending on eligibility. Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • previous kitchen or cooking experience preferred
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • ability to follow recipes and procedures accurately
  • strong manual dexterity and physical stamina
  • good communication and teamwork skills
  • ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties

  • fulfills food order tickets by preparing, seasoning and cooking complex menu items including soups, sauces, vegetables, meats and desserts
  • takes direction from manager on duty
  • comply with all applicable federal, state and local statutes as well as Razzoo’s policies and procedures
  • always follow recipes as they are presented and have recipes out when making them
  • follow line procedures never taking shortcuts to shorten procedure
  • utilize scales and measuring tools when portioning food and completing recipes
  • have the urgency to prepare food items to achieve Razzoo’s stated cook times
  • attack food tickets at all times of day with a consistent sense of urgency
  • commit to preparing plates in a consistent arrangement with clean rims and deli paper pointed up
  • properly garnish every plate
  • follow 'Cook To Order' philosophy without pre-cooking food items
  • follow proper food thawing procedures
  • properly cover, label, date and rotate all food items
  • properly ice down food items as required
  • manually and safely clean knives
  • adhere to all safety, sanitation and food-handling rules and guidelines
  • maintain a clean and organized kitchen
  • properly handle all food items while maintaining a sanitized kitchen
  • follow proper knife handling procedures using cutting gloves where appropriate
  • utilize rubber gloves when handling food or disposing of trash
  • follow prep sheets as completed by managers
  • manage line food levels appropriate to the level of business
  • clean and sanitize station and check in with manager before leaving
  • commit to a safe working environment reporting any unsafe procedures or conditions to manager
  • utilize chemicals as described in OSHA MSDS book
  • handle all kitchen equipment safely
  • operate dishwashing machine as necessary and maintain accurate chemical levels
  • empty trash cans using appropriate safety and sanitation measures
  • wash and sanitize hands as required
  • maintain a clean and safe environment reporting unsafe conditions
  • perform additional duties as assigned by a manager
