Job Description
California State University Stanislaus, located in Turlock, California, is part of the renowned California State University system. This institution is dedicated to providing high-quality education and fostering a vibrant campus community. At the heart of campus life is the commitment to not only academic excellence but also to offering exceptional services that support the well-being and needs of its students, faculty, and staff. One critical service is campus dining, managed by Chartwells Higher Ed, an experienced provider of food service operations in educational settings. Chartwells Higher Ed is known for its focus on quality, safety, and customer satisfaction in food service, making the dining experience enjoyable and nutritious for the university community.
The university is currently hiring part-time cooks to join their campus dining team. These positions offer competitive wages at $20.50 per hour and include varied shifts covering days, nights, and weekends. The role is fundamental to maintaining the high standards of food preparation and service expected on the campus. As a Cook at California State University Stanislaus, you will be responsible for preparing food in accordance with all federal, state, and corporate food safety and quality guidelines. You will follow standardized recipes to ensure consistent and high-quality meals that meet production and service schedules. This involves proper portioning, presentation, and temperature control to guarantee meals that are both appealing and safe.
This role requires two years of prior experience in culinary arts, underscoring the importance of a knowledgeable and skilled kitchen team. As a Cook, you are expected to actively participate in maintaining kitchen cleanliness and hygiene, including cleaning and storing food properly and ensuring all kitchen equipment is operated safely and maintained well. The position also involves record keeping, assisting in food ordering and receiving, and reporting any maintenance issues or safety concerns promptly to supervisors.
Teamwork and communication are essential elements of this position. You will be working closely with coworkers, managers, and other campus personnel to ensure smooth operations and excellent customer service. Safety is a top priority, with required adherence to company policies like using cut-resistant gloves, oven mitts, and slip-resistant shoes to minimize accidents. The campus dining environment promotes ongoing learning and safety awareness through regular in-service and safety meetings.
The position benefits from flexible part-time scheduling and the opportunity to be part of a supportive and inclusive team that values diversity. Employees have access to various benefits and perks such as opportunities for training and development, retirement plans, associate shopping programs, health and wellness programs, and various insurance options including pet insurance and identity theft protection. Although the position is part-time, there may be opportunities to work year-round depending on the needs of the university, including potential assignments at different locations during academic breaks.
Joining the campus dining team at California State University Stanislaus means becoming part of an organization committed to making a difference in student and staff life through quality food service. If you have a passion for cooking, safety, and excellent customer service, and meet the experience requirements, this is a promising opportunity to work in a dynamic educational environment.
