Job Description

North Central Baptist Hospitals is a respected healthcare institution that serves the community by providing comprehensive medical services with a focus on patient-centered care. This hospital is part of the larger Baptist Health System, which has a rich history spanning over 120 years in offering healthcare services. The Baptist Health System encompasses multiple full-service hospitals, specialized children's hospitals, cancer care networks, rehabilitation centers, and educational institutions like the Baptist School of Health Professions. Their mission is dedicated to helping individuals achieve health for life through compassionate care inspired by faith and a commitment to high standards of medical excellence.

Joining North Central Baptist Hospitals means becoming part of a professional team that values their employees and prioritizes health, personal well-being, and professional development. Employees enjoy a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer matching, paid time off, opportunities for career growth and continuing education, health savings and flexible spending accounts, as well as voluntary benefits such as pet insurance, legal insurance, accident and critical illness coverage, long-term care, and childcare support programs.

The Dietary Cook role at North Central Baptist Hospitals is a full-time rotating position responsible for preparing food in various departments within the hospital. This position plays a critical role in supporting patient comfort and nutrition by preparing meals that meet hygiene and safety standards. The Dietary Cook ensures that food is prepared according to standardized recipes, maintaining quality, safety, and sanitation in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as adhering to Baptist Health System (BHS) standards such as HACCP.

In this role, the cook prepares food for the cafeteria, patient services, and other assigned areas, handling the production and preparation of salads, desserts, and grilled foods. A keen sense of taste and color perception is essential for quality control, and the candidate must demonstrate proficiency in managing kitchen equipment. Responsibilities also include checking food temperatures to ensure safety, reviewing the content and temperature of patient trays, and ensuring timely food delivery.

Effective communication skills are necessary for coordination with coworkers and supervisors. The Dietary Cook works efficiently with resources, maintains cleanliness and safety in the workplace, and participates in performance improvement activities to enhance food service quality. The position requires a minimum of one year of cooking experience, preferably in healthcare or restaurant settings, and mandates certification such as an ANSI Accredited Texas Food Handler or a Certified Food Manager credential from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District.

This role offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a healthcare environment where nutrition and patient satisfaction are integral to overall care. It is an ideal position for those passionate about food preparation, hygiene, and contributing to patient wellness in a respected hospital setting. North Central Baptist Hospitals fosters an inclusive and supportive workplace committed to diversity and compliance with all applicable employment laws, including accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
