Accounting Clerk Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accurately type, prepare and maintain various accounting documents and records
  • Verify and post details of business transactions to ledgers and databases
  • Reconcile bank statements by comparing statements with the general ledger
  • Generate a variety of reports, including income statements and balance sheets
  • Determine the value of depreciable assets using depreciation software
  • Manage and reconcile petty cash transactions
  • Support in the preparation of budgets
  • Ensure the accuracy and alignment of accounting software
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the accounting department
  • Assist with year-end audit requests
  • Track all company charges and issue timely refunds
  • Serve as a resource for accounts payable and accounts receivable teams
  • Respond appropriately to vendor, client and internal requests
  • Operate within established standards, procedures and applicable laws
  • Safeguard the organization’s values by maintaining strict confidentiality

Accounting Clerk Experience Requirements & Skills

  • Proven work experience as an Accounting Clerk or similar role
  • Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Familiarity with tax regulations and experience in preparing tax-related documents
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures
  • Competency in MS Office, databases and accounting software
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial reports
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and data entry skills
  • Well-organized and able to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to act responsibly and ethically when working with sensitive financial information
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems

Accounting Clerk Education & Qualifications

  • A high school diploma is required
