Pros:

  • Stimulating work environment: Being a Concierge means facing fresh and diverse challenges and opportunities each day. Whether orchestrating special events or creating unique experiences for guests, Concierges face an engaging work environment that keeps them motivated and passionate.
  • Professional growth opportunities: Concierges interact with many industry peers, from fellow hotel staff to service vendors, providers and guests. Whether having tickets to exclusive events, having reservations at top dining spots or uncovering and showing local gems, Concierges enjoy a wide array of perks that can enhance both their professional and personal experiences.

Cons:

  • Demanding work environment: The role of a Concierge can be demanding, especially in bustling establishments where the pace is fast and requests are constant. It can be challenging to prioritize and multitask while maintaining the same, high level of customer service.
  • Irregular hours and shifts: Concierges often must work irregular hours that include weekends, holidays and evenings, always catering to guests. The role of a Concierge might make it difficult to establish some sort of work/life balance, therefore Concierges need to find the time for themselves before they can address the needs of all guests.
  • Dealing with difficult situations: Concierges often face distressed customers, resolve conflicts or manage emergencies. In such a high-demand, stressful environment, it can be challenging to remain composed. Still, by practicing patience, conflict-resolution and developing diplomacy skills, every concierge will be able to navigate challenging interactions effectively.
