The position available is for an Event Manager who will operate within the Kyo-ya Shared Service in Honolulu, supporting the event management needs of the above highly regarded Marriott properties. This full-time management role offers an annual salary ranging from $69,400 to $80,000 and includes bonus eligibility. As an integral member of the Event Management team, the Event Manager is responsible for overseeing event documentation, coordinating with sales teams, property departments, and customers to ensure a seamless and high-quality experience throughout all event phases. From pre-event planning to execution and post-event wrap-up, this role is essential in upholding Marriott’s commitment to excellence and guest satisfaction.

The successful candidate will handle events of average complexity, ensuring smooth transitions between sales and service teams while recognizing opportunities for revenue enhancement through up-selling and offering event enhancements. Major responsibilities include managing group room blocks and meeting spaces, addressing operational challenges, acting as a liaison among sales staff, customers, and property teams, and participating in customer site inspections. The Event Manager will utilize their judgment and knowledge of current trends in event design and management to elevate the quality and creativity of event offerings.

Customer service excellence is paramount in this role. The Event Manager will provide a consistent presence for clients, manage guest relations effectively by promptly addressing concerns and complaints, and continuously seek feedback to improve the customer experience. Leadership skills are vital as this position involves conducting formal pre- and post-event meetings, leading event teams, and ensuring communication and coordination are effective across all involved departments.

In addition to operational and customer service responsibilities, this role also supports sales and marketing efforts by assisting in revenue forecasting, upselling products and services, and contributing to group event revenue projections. Human resource activities include reviewing guest satisfaction feedback with the team, coaching employees, and assisting in corrective action plans to improve service delivery. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years experience in event management or related professional area
  • OR 2-year degree from accredited university in relevant major
  • At least 1 year experience in event management
  • Ability to manage group room blocks and meeting spaces
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Capacity to work full time in Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Willingness to participate in pre- and post-event meetings
  • Ability to handle customer service issues and complaints professionally

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 1-2 years experience in event management or related field
  • OR 2-year degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration or related major with at least 1 year experience in event management

Job Duties

  • Prepare all event documentation and coordinate with sales, property departments, and customers
  • Ensure seamless progression of events by following established procedures and collaborating with staff
  • Greet customers during events and hand off to event operations team for execution
  • Manage group room blocks and meeting spaces for assigned groups
  • Identify operational challenges and develop solutions with staff and customers
  • Act as liaison between field salesperson and customer throughout event phases
  • Participate in customer site inspections and assist in sales process
  • Conduct formal pre- and post-event meetings
  • Assist in sales process and revenue forecasting
  • Upsell products and services throughout the event process
  • Review guest satisfaction feedback and provide coaching
  • Respond to and handle guest problems and complaints
  • Emphasize guest satisfaction and continuous improvement
  • Oversee billing accuracy and conduct bill reviews with clients
  • Solicit feedback from property departments to enhance event experience
