The Director of Finance serves a key leadership role at Highgate Hotels located in the Best Western property in Honolulu, HI. This position is responsible for providing consistent financial oversight focusing on the profitability of the hotel business. The director maintains accurate and timely financial reporting, ensures acceptable levels of internal control, and enforces compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and company standard operating procedures. The role supports safeguarding owners' and investors' assets while driving sound fiscal management practices. This involves managing cash flows, monitoring revenues and expenses, developing budgets, conducting variance analysis, and implementing internal financial controls. The Director of Finance also manages audits and coordinates with external CPA firms to ensure financial integrity. Supervising, training, and developing finance staff and maintaining alignment with corporate standards to operate the hotel efficiently are critical to the success of the role. This position requires expertise in hospitality finance/accounting and leadership experience, preferably within premium-branded hotels. Proficiency in accounting systems, spreadsheets, and other hotel-specific software is essential. The Director of Finance is a pivotal contributor towards sustaining the financial health and operational success of the hotel and supporting Highgate’s ongoing growth in the hospitality industry.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferably in finance or accounting
- Minimum 5 years of hospitality finance or accounting experience
- Prior experience as a controller or director of finance in a hotel environment
- Proven supervisory skills overseeing at least two employees
- Strong communication skills
- Proficiency in Windows and accounting software
- Ability to comply with internal controls and regulatory requirements
Job Qualifications
- At least 5 or more years of hospitality finance or accounting experience
- Prior controller or director of finance experience, preferably at a premium-branded hotel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Bachelor's degree preferred in finance or accounting
- Experience supervising two or more employees
- Proficiency in Windows, company-approved spreadsheets, word processing, and hotel-specific systems
Job Duties
- Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues including preparation of monthly financial statements
- Monitor hotel revenues and expenses and ensure accurate recording
- Create annual budgets and perform monthly variance analysis
- Ensure hotels' compliance with regulatory licenses, leases, contracts, legal agreements, and operational taxes
- Analyze financial data and assist management in maintaining financial objectives
- Comply with standard accounting policies, procedures and internal controls
- Review and approve all balance sheet accounts including bank reconciliations
- Establish and audit internal financial controls over purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, assets, master keys, payroll, and employee records
- Coordinate and successfully complete internal and external financial audits
- Hire, train, supervise and develop finance staff
- Maintain compliance with Highgate Hotels' standards and regulations
- Prepare and direct financial reports to meet weekly, monthly, and annual deadlines
- Interact with Executive Committee members to ensure operational control
- Monitor the production of the hotel daily operating report
- Execute special projects and assigned responsibilities
