Job Description
Oak Street Health is a leading healthcare company dedicated to transforming primary care for adults on Medicare. Their focus is on providing exceptional, value-based care by building strong, trusting relationships with patients and coordinating personalized care plans. Headquartered in the United States, Oak Street Health emphasizes compassionate, connected, and convenient healthcare experiences to help simplify health management for individuals, families, and communities. They are committed to innovation, accountability, and ensuring safety and quality in all aspects of patient care. Oak Street Health fosters a team environment where colleagues are passionate about making a positive difference in healthcare delivery and outcomes.
The role of a Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS), also referred to as a Medical Scribe, at Oak Street Health plays a critical part in supporting primary care providers by managing clinical documentation. This allows providers to concentrate fully on delivering high-quality patient care without being burdened by administrative tasks. The CIS works closely with providers throughout each patient’s care journey, from morning huddles that prepare the team for the day’s appointments to real-time documentation during patient exams and assisting with next steps after visits. This role goes beyond basic scribing as CISs become experts in Oak Street Health’s value-based care model, chronic condition documentation, and coding systems such as ICD-10 and CPT codes. They help close care gaps by leveraging clinical documentation expertise and population health data.
This position offers extensive on-the-job training in clinical workflows, value-based medicine, preventative care techniques, and the use of population health tools to augment both documentation accuracy and patient care quality. CISs join a collaborative care team environment where adaptability, effective communication, and technical proficiency are essential. The opportunity is ideal for pre-med students pursuing clinical experience, as well as professionals exploring careers in health informatics, public health, healthcare administration, and medical coding. The role is full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, based at Oak Street Health’s Newark, New Jersey location. The pay range for this position typically falls between $17.00 and $34.15 per hour, depending on factors such as experience, education, and geography. Additional compensation opportunities include bonuses, commissions, or short-term incentives.
By joining Oak Street Health as a Medical Scribe, candidates become integral members of a forward-thinking healthcare organization focused on improving patient outcomes through personalized care and detailed clinical documentation. The role demands a commitment of at least one year, with two or more years preferred, making it an excellent stepping stone for those aiming to advance in medical or health-related careers. This position not only hones medical knowledge and clinical documentation skills but also offers exposure to a pioneering model of value-based primary care that prioritizes patient-centered service and outcomes.
