Job Description
The Mayor's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) serves as the City of New York's chief financial agency. It plays a critical role in assembling and overseeing the Mayor's expense and capital budgets, managing the funding for services and activities of over 90 city agencies and entities. With a team composed of skilled analysts and financial experts, OMB ensures that city resources are allocated effectively and efficiently to support the operational needs of city government. Additionally, OMB is committed to transparency, accountability, and strategic planning to support the Mayor’s policy goals and public service mandates.
Within OMB, the Personnel Management and Administration (PMA) division functions as the central services department. PMA designs, develops, and implements programs to support the needs of OMB personnel while providing timely and efficient services to OMB employees. This division is fundamental in fostering a well-organized and professional work environment by managing administrative tasks, facilitating communication, and supporting operational activities across the agency.
We are seeking a Part-Time Receptionist to join the Personnel Management and Administration team, specifically to provide receptionist services for the 6th and 7th floors of the OMB offices located at 255 Greenwich Street, Manhattan. This part-time position offers a salary range of $25.00 to $30.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, for approximately 17 to 24 hours per week.
The Part-Time Receptionist will serve as the first point of contact for visitors and callers to the OMB, responsible for welcoming and announcing visitors to the appropriate personnel. The role requires managing the conference room schedules, answering and screening phone calls, and efficiently directing communications to OMB personnel. A strong emphasis is placed on adherence to OMB’s security policies for admitting both staff and outside visitors, ensuring that safety protocols and organizational standards are maintained.
In addition to front desk responsibilities, the receptionist will provide administrative support to the PMA staff. This includes tasks such as scheduling meetings, coordinating and managing calendars, drafting and editing various forms of communication, maintaining and organizing records, and tracking correspondence. Special projects may also be assigned to support the department’s needs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and excellent customer service skills are essential to succeed in this role.
This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who are organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced government office environment. The Office of Management and Budget fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace culture, dedicated to providing equal employment opportunities free from discrimination or harassment. Candidates are required to submit a cover letter as part of the application to be considered. New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment, though certain exemptions may apply depending on previous city employment and residency status.
Joining the OMB as a Part-Time Receptionist means becoming part of New York City’s dedicated public service core, contributing daily to the effective management of city resources and the smooth operation of one of the city’s key financial agencies. This role not only involves delivering excellent customer service but also supports OMB staff through vital administrative assistance, helping facilitate the agency’s mission to serve the people of New York City efficiently and responsibly.
