Job Description

The David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, located in downtown Tampa, stands as a premier cultural hub offering extraordinary experiences that celebrate the performing arts. As one of the largest performing arts centers in the southeastern United States, the Straz Center showcases an extensive array of performances ranging from Broadway shows and concerts to educational programs and community events. This institution is dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape of Tampa and the surrounding region by providing a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for guests, artists, and staff alike. The organization values diversity and is committed to fostering an environment where individuals from various backgrounds feel represented and respected.

Joining the Straz Center team as a Barista offers an exciting opportunity for those interested in entering the customer service or hospitality industries. This role is integral to the Food and Beverage department, where employees help shape the guest experience by delivering high-quality handcrafted beverages and exceptional customer service. Work is dynamic and varied, involving shifts at both the traditional coffee shop and concessions inside the theater lobby, catering to diverse audiences during events. Employee scheduling is flexible yet event-driven, with shifts often including evenings and weekends that coincide with performances and special events.

The Barista position at the Straz Center is designed for individuals who are personable, enthusiastic, and eager to learn. Even those with limited experience in coffee service will find supportive training and opportunities for advancement, as the center emphasizes promoting from within. Baristas are expected to create a friendly and welcoming vibe, uphold stringent quality standards for beverage preparation, and maintain cleanliness and organization within their work areas. Responsibilities also include engaging customers by making informed recommendations and answering questions about the beverage menu.

As a member of the Food and Beverage team, Baristas at the Straz Center enjoy part-time benefits that include employee discounts and access to a 403(b) retirement plan, reflecting the organization's commitment to valuing its staff. Additionally, the work environment is team-oriented and supportive, contributing to a positive workplace culture.
