Salary: $24,000–$43,000

Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week), with the possibility of overtime beyond 40 hours per week

Sales Clerk Duties & Responsibilities

  • Greet customers warmly
  • Answer customer inquiries, providing information on products, returns and store policies
  • Manage stock levels, order and receive new inventory to ensure products are always available
  • Maintain the store’s appearance by organizing and presenting products attractively
  • Process transactions, including cash and credit card payments and maintain accurate sales records
  • Exceed personal sales targets, engaging in suggestive selling to encourage additional purchases
  • Collaborate with other Sales Clerks and team members to ensure efficient store operations and a positive customer experience
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance product knowledge and sales techniques
  • Handle customer complaints in a positive and timely manner, escalating significant concerns to management as necessary
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all safety standards
  • Call other store locations to find items based on customer requests and suggest new items to customers
  • Enter sales and customer data into the company database, keeping records of special orders
  • Encourage customers to sign up for store loyalty programs

Sales Clerk Experience Requirements & Skills

  • Prior retail experience is beneficial but not mandatory
  • Familiarity with retail operations
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows or quick learning ability for new software
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong attention to detail, multitasking ability and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic math skills for handling cash transactions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team
  • Ability to remain calm and handle difficult customers
  • Persuasive ability to encourage customers to add onto their purchase
  • Creative thinking for devising new ways to promote and market items
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items if required
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed

Sales Clerk Education & Qualifications
