How Much Can You Earn as a Fine Dining Server in Miami?

As we’ve mentioned, the average base pay for Fine Dining Servers in Miami is $26.47 per hour or $4,587.67 base per month. This is 58.81% higher than the U.S.-wide average, which is at $14.44 per hour.

Other than the base pay, a significant portion of a Fine Dining Server’s income comes from tips. Because of the higher quality of service and more expensive meals, customers tend to tip generously in fine dining establishments.

Legal Requirements for Fine Dining Server Jobs in Miami

Like all jobs, Fine Dining Servers in Miami are covered by regulations under Florida Labor Laws. These include:

Minimum wage

Florida has a minimum wage of $13.00 per hour. However, tipped employees have a lower minimum wage of $8.98 per hour.

A tipped employee is someone who earns more than $30 a month in tips. Fine Dining Servers typically fall under this category.

Overtime pay

Nonexempt or salaried employees (like Fine Dining Servers) are entitled to overtime pay when they exceed the 40-hour weekly work limit.

They should get no less than 1.5 times their standard hourly wage for the extra hours rendered.

Anti-discrimination and fair employment

Florida has strict anti-discrimination laws to protect the rights of employees. It's against the law to discriminate in employment on fundamental factors, including race, sex, religion, age, pregnancy, disability and marital status.

Employment Authorization Documents

Nonimmigrant visa holders seeking employment in Miami may qualify for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). An EAD grants temporary work permission in the United States for a specific duration.

To obtain an EAD, applicants must submit the necessary documentation to prove their eligibility.

Fine Dining Server Jobs in Miami FAQ

Some Fine Dining Server jobs listed above don't indicate a salary because Florida doesn't have specific pay transparency laws

Meanwhile, some employers may not have a specified salary range and will base it on the chosen candidate's skills and experience.

Florida, including Miami, does not have a state personal income tax because of a constitutional amendment passed in 1968

The decision to eliminate personal income tax was aimed at attracting residents and businesses to the state.

Some Florida restaurant owners require their Fine Dining Servers to hold an Alcohol Server Certification so that their business will qualify for the Responsible Vendor Program.

While a certification isn't mandatory, it may be easier to find work when you have it.

Top restaurants hiring in Miami include Joe’s Stone Crab, The Surf Club Restaurant, Zuma, Bourbon Steak, and Komodo. Many exclusive hotels and private dining clubs also seek experienced professionals.

To stand out, demonstrate deep menu knowledge, excellent guest service skills, and experience in upscale dining environments. Learning about wine certifications or fine dining etiquette can also give candidates an edge.
