Job Description
Edmund Optics (EO) is a globally recognized leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of optical components, imaging systems, and advanced manufacturing solutions. Founded with a commitment to providing the highest quality optics and photonics products, EO serves a diverse customer base ranging from research institutions and scientific laboratories to industrial and commercial enterprises. The company's Advanced Manufacturing Division (AMD) plays a critical role in the larger Sales organization, focusing on delivering customized optical solutions through sophisticated manufacturing capabilities. Edmund Optics is committed to innovation, diverse workforce inclusion, and excellence in customer service, striving to be the most diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace in the optics and photonics industry.
The Solutions Support Engineer role at Edmund Optics offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of technical expertise and customer engagement within the Advanced Manufacturing Division. This full-time position is integral to the sales process, bridging the gap between potential customers interested in EO's custom manufacturing capabilities and the engineering and sales teams that deliver tailored solutions. The salary range for this role is competitive, offering between $58,000 and $65,000 annually, reflecting the specialized nature of the position.
Solutions Support Engineers are responsible for the meticulous review of incoming requests for quote (RFQs), assessing both the technical feasibility and business viability of the proposed custom projects. This role demands a high level of technical aptitude in optics or related fields combined with a strong customer-oriented mindset. Solutions Support Engineers are the frontline technical advisors, answering customer inquiries across multiple communication channels including phone, chat, and email. They facilitate pre-sales activities for custom manufacturing projects primarily originating from unmanaged accounts, ensuring completeness and technical accuracy of RFQs and entering relevant data into internal systems.
This position is heavily collaborative, requiring close interaction with other Solutions Engineers to remain current on EO's manufacturing and testing capabilities. The role also involves identifying promising sales opportunities and communicating these effectively to both inside and outside sales teams to optimize market competitiveness and customer satisfaction. Beyond core responsibilities, Solutions Support Engineers contribute to technical content creation, data management, and may represent EO at industry trade shows up to several times per year.
Candidates must demonstrate professional demeanor, effective communication skills, and critical thinking abilities. The ability to work independently while managing multiple customer conversations in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment is essential. This role requires US citizenship or permanent residency to comply with company policies and regulatory standards. Edmund Optics encourages applications from a diverse range of candidates and values the potential of individuals who may not meet every qualification but show aptitude and enthusiasm for the role.
Physical requirements include the ability to operate office equipment and sustain prolonged periods of desk work in an in-person office setting located in Tucson, Arizona. Edmund Optics offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, dental and vision care, life insurance, paid time off, parental leave, flexible scheduling, and generous retirement plans including 401(k) with matching contributions. Tuition reimbursement and employee assistance programs further support the personal and professional growth of employees.
