The Housekeeping EVS Associate at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix is a critical team member responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of the hospital environment. This full-time evening shift role (3:00 PM to 11:30 PM) is designed for hardworking individuals who are eager to contribute to creating a welcoming and hygienic healthcare setting. Although prior experience in a hospital or institutional environment is not necessary, the role demands a high level of physical activity and the ability to work in a fast-paced setting. Duties include cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining patient rooms and other assigned areas, using proper cleaning chemicals and techniques to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The role may involve handling challenging assignments such as cleaning the morgue or specialty units like the Infectious Disease Unit.
This position requires strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with the medical staff and environmental services team. Employees are expected to complete onboarding promptly, undergo a background check and drug screening, and adhere to the health system's policies, including the mandatory annual flu vaccination. Job Requirements
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team without continuous supervision
- Ability to interpret and respond to verbal and written instructions
- Effective communication skills by phone and verbally
- Ability to read and understand material safety data sheets and instructions for mixing and using cleaning chemicals
- Ability to fill out chemical identification stickers
- Completion of background check and drug screening
- Completion of onboarding in a timely manner
- Mandatory annual flu vaccination
- For specific facilities, possession and maintenance of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card is required
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous related experience in environmental services preferred
- Familiarity with environmental services equipment and cleaning techniques preferred
- Ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions
- Effective communication skills with patients, staff, and visitors
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of material safety data sheets and cleaning chemical handling
Job Duties
- Perform assigned cleaning tasks including dusting, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, vacuuming, and polishing according to departmental policies
- Empty hampers and transport soiled linens
- Empty trash containers and remove all trash including medical waste and sharps
- Inventory, restock and replenish supplies such as toilet tissue, paper towels, and hand soap in assigned areas
- Maintain cleanliness of departmental equipment and report necessary repairs
- Perform special projects such as window and wall washing or removing heavily soiled items
- Respond to questions and requests from patients, staff, and visitors ensuring high customer service satisfaction
