Job Description
Whataburger is a beloved American fast-food restaurant chain known for its delicious and customizable burgers served around the clock. Founded in 1950, Whataburger has grown from a single location in Texas to a regional favorite celebrated for its high-quality ingredients, friendly service, and iconic orange-and-white striped buildings. Whataburger places a strong emphasis on community, teamwork, and leadership development, investing heavily in its employees to help them grow both personally and professionally. The company fosters an inclusive and fun working environment while delivering a top-notch customer experience. Today, Whataburger continues to expand its footprint while maintaining the family-oriented values and commitment to operational excellence that have made it a household name in the fast-food industry.
The Shift Leader position at Whataburger is a pivotal role designed to keep restaurant operations running smoothly and efficiently during all shifts. As a Shift Leader, you act as the operational backbone of the restaurant, ensuring that quality, service, and cleanliness standards are continuously met. You will lead, coach, and motivate team members, referred to as Family Members, to develop their skills and confidence, helping both new hires and experienced staff perform their best. Shift Leaders partner closely with Restaurant Managers to sharpen leadership skills and enhance shift-management capability, gaining valuable hands-on experience that paves the way toward higher leadership opportunities within the company.
Working as a Shift Leader at Whataburger involves taking on responsibilities that directly impact the customer experience and the overall efficiency of the restaurant. You will be responsible for guiding the team through busy rushes, managing labor and food costs, maintaining safety and sanitation, and fostering a positive, collaborative work culture. The role demands strong communication, multitasking, and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to inspire and lead by example. Whataburger offers flexible schedules including day, night, evening, and overnight shifts to accommodate various lifestyles and needs.
Whataburger offers competitive weekly pay and extensive benefits such as paid time off, 401(k) matching up to 4%, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability coverage, and career development opportunities that include a clear path to six-figure income for successful Operating Partners. Additional perks include scholarship programs for dependents, educational support like free English-language learning, no-cost college-level courses, discounted meals, wireless service and computer/software discounts, and fitness/gym discounts. The company recognizes and rewards employees' contributions through awards, recognition programs, and retirement celebrations.
In this role, you will primarily work in your home restaurant, leading daily operations and supporting your team on the frontlines. Occasionally, you may be asked to provide leadership support in nearby locations or participate in special training sessions and leadership meetings to connect with the broader Whataburger organization. The position requires physical stamina to stand for long hours and handle various tasks that may involve lifting up to 55 pounds. Successful candidates must possess or be willing to obtain ServSafe Food Certification and demonstrate a strong commitment to dependable attendance and open availability across diverse shifts including weekends and holidays.
Overall, a career as a Shift Leader at Whataburger is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to develop leadership capabilities in a supportive, dynamic environment where your contributions matter. If you are passionate about delivering great food, exceptional service, and growing your career in a company that values integrity, teamwork, and bold leadership, Whataburger provides a fulfilling and rewarding place to work.
