Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience in related field or performing similar tasks
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days preferred
  • Ability to lead, motivate and direct others
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to manage emergency situations
  • Experience with youth recreation programming
  • Ability to work 25 to 35 hours per week primarily afternoons
  • Ability to work varying schedules including early evenings and holidays
  • Capability to perform physical activities including lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors
  • Willingness to report to multiple work sites if required
  • Ability to pass background check and driving history review

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • College courses in related field preferred
  • One year of experience in similar role or performing related tasks
  • Ability to obtain valid First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of hire
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days preferred
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to supervise and motivate staff
  • Experience in youth recreation or childcare programs
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation guidelines

Job Duties

  • Supervise assigned youth recreation programs and participants, staff and volunteers
  • Oversee the safety of participants in youth programs
  • Provide leadership, expertise and support to assigned staff including training, mentoring, directing and assigning work
  • Assist Supervisor in hiring and evaluating staff
  • Plan, organize, implement and supervise developmentally appropriate activities including SEL and STEM curriculum
  • Communicate regularly with school staff, principals, office staff, custodians, counselors and teachers
  • Identify and direct needed staff and equipment
  • Perform program-specific planning and evaluation within broad goals and guidelines
  • Train, mentor, set goals with and evaluate staff
  • Address program-specific risk management issues
  • Interact with youth through crafts, games and planned activities
  • Facilitate inclusion of special needs participants
  • Manage accidents and incidents according to procedures
  • Complete required reports and paperwork
  • Monitor program expenditures to ensure budget adherence
  • Oversee upkeep and care of equipment, supplies and facilities
  • Attend supervisory and planning meetings
  • Communicate with patrons, parents, guardians and community partners
  • Report incidents of child abuse or neglect
  • Perform duties of Recreation 1 and 2 roles as a model
