The Banner Poison & Drug Information Center provides an essential 24/7 emergency telephone service for poison control and drug information. It is an American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) certified center that actively supports a large population in Maricopa County, which exceeds 4 million residents. The center works closely with an inpatient toxicology service, offers a fellowship program, and is involved in the clinical education of nursing, pharmacy, and medical students. The role of RN Poison Information Specialist is a crucial position within this dynamic team. This full-time, evening shift role (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm) includes working 32 hours per week with rotating weekends. It is important to note that this role is onsite and not remote, as it requires close collaboration with the Banner University Medical Center. The RN Poison Information Specialist is responsible for providing direct care and triage related to poison exposures through the center's emergency telephone line. This includes assessing clinical situations, making toxicological assessments, recommending treatment plans, documenting interventions, and conducting necessary follow-ups to ensure patient safety and positive health outcomes.
Ideal candidates bring 3-5 years of clinical experience, preferably in emergency departments, intensive care units, or other poison information centers. This role requires an ability to manage complex medical inquiries by providing clear, accurate, and compassionate guidance to a diverse audience, including members of the public, healthcare professionals, and emergency personnel. The RN Poison Information Specialist plays an active role in poison prevention education for the community and professional education for peers, contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives and serving as a vital resource both within the hospital setting and the wider community.

Job Requirements
- Current licensure as a registered nurse in Arizona or a compact state
- minimum three to five years recent clinical experience
- previous experience in critical care unit, emergency department, or poison information center
- ability to take thorough history and perform basic math
- ability to prioritize phone calls and handle stress
- must maintain patient confidentiality
- may require AAPCC certification within five years of hire
- must recertify every seven years
- ability to communicate complex information tactfully in crisis
Job Qualifications
- Current licensure as registered nurse in Arizona or compact state
