Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 1-year full service restaurant experience or the equivalent
  • accurate mathematic skills
  • knowledge of menu and specials
  • understanding of restaurant layout including table numbers and station numbers
  • punctuality in meeting personal schedule requirements
  • warm, sincere, outgoing personality
  • physical stamina to stand for long periods while on duty
  • ability to move safely throughout all areas of the restaurant
  • capacity to work amidst noise in confined crowded spaces
  • ability to move chairs and transport high chairs or booster seats to tables when necessary
  • willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Determine proper amount of reservations to be accepted for each shift according to standing operating procedure
  • take all reservation calls and record necessary information
  • confirm applicable reservations according to standing operating procedure
  • seat the restaurant evenly and in an orderly manner so that the dining room looks well filled at all times and so that all servers have a fair share of the guests
  • maintain an accurate head count of guests seated in each station
  • fill out completely all sections of a telephone message pad and pass on to the appropriate person within 10 minutes of the call
  • check washrooms and coordinate with bus staff cleaning requirements
  • ensure that host desk and waiting area are kept clean and organized throughout the shift
  • sell and accurately account for gift certificate sales
  • move tables as needed for larger or smaller parties
  • relate to guests pleasantly and with good humor
  • communicate effectively with guests
  • accurately quote wait time within 5 minutes when restaurant is on a wait
  • efficiently assign tables appropriate for parties being seated
  • accurately fill out and maintain host/hostess control sheet
  • anticipate needs of scheduled special parties
  • communicate seating needs to service, bus and other host staff
  • cordially inform the guest about where to wait and how wait system works
