Job Requirements
- Hours worked per week must be stated for each season and position held in your resume
- Six months of general work experience plus six months of specialized work experience equivalent to GW/GS-03 level duties or two years of education above high school level with relevant coursework or a combination of education and experience for GW-04
- One year of specialized work experience equivalent to GW/GS-04 level or a 4-year degree with relevant major study or coursework for GW-05
- One year of specialized work experience equivalent to GW/GS-05 level or one year of graduate-level education or combination of education and experience for GW-06
- One year of specialized work experience equivalent to GW/GS-06 level or graduate education or combination of education and experience for GW-07
- Ability to work long hours sitting and maintain intense concentration
- Ability to cope with stressful situations and meet timeframes and changing priorities
- Submit transcripts or education proof if qualifying based on education
- Foreign education must be evaluated and deemed equivalent
- Must meet all qualifications by the closing date of the announcement
Job Qualifications
- Experience performing dispatch work or equivalent familiarity with dispatch operations and procedures
- Education in forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources, outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science
- Ability to perform fire suppression duties and use related computer programs
- One year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GW-04 level for GW-05 positions
- Completion of a four-year degree with relevant coursework for GW-05 and above
- One year of graduate-level education or specialized experience for GW-06 and GW-07 roles
- Experience providing logistical support and directing dispatch activities for wildland fire suppression
Job Duties
- Perform dispatch and dispatch office functions related to wildland fire suppression activities
- Determine priorities and select alternative resources during fire incidents
- Receive and review fire incident reports and work with wildland fire dispatch computer programs
- Provide logistical support information and recommendations for efficient use of available resources
- Maintain communication and coordination during peak fire activity
- Manage high levels of radio traffic and phone communications in a noisy office environment
- Handle high stress situations calmly and effectively while meeting strict timeframes
