Fashion Editor Duties & Responsibilities

  • Generate captivating story ideas highlighting the latest fashion trends
  • Propose innovative fashion products, ideas and styles
  • Prepare market analysis on key trends
  • Discuss themes and ideas with the Editor-in-Chief to align with reader preferences
  • Research competitors and industry best practices
  • Represent the publication at fashion shows
  • Lead and guide a team of skilled fashion writers
  • Collaborate with designers, models and photographers for photoshoots
  • Choose and book photoshoot locations
  • Review photos from fashion shoots for publication
  • Interview designers and write articles about industry trends
  • Edit and proofread team articles
  • Manage contributor writer submissions
  • Coach writers on story formats, styles and voice
  • Manage the layout of the publication
  • Review and approve design changes, additions or deletions
  • Manage budgets and expenditures
  • Act as a liaison between designers and the marketing team
  • Attend fashion shows, meet designers and visit retail outlets to stay updated
  • Boost social media activity and maintain industry contacts

Fashion Editor Experience Requirements & Skills

  • 3+ years experience as a Fashion Editor
  • Extensive knowledge of both current and past fashion trends
  • Strong knowledge of the process of creating fashion publications
  • Experience working with digital media
  • Understanding of Photoshop, InDesign and other publishing tools
  • Superb editing, copywriting and proofreading skills
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and multitasking abilities
