Job Requirements

  • Full-time availability with minimum 40 hours per week
  • Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and one Saturday per month
  • Experience working with children aged 3 to 12
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certification or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Background check and clearance as required by Park District policies
  • Ability to perform physical activities including lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Commitment to safety policies and procedures
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum two years experience in recreation field
  • Progressive experience working with children aged 3 to 12
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Education, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent experience considered
  • Ability to understand and respond to staff, parents, and children needs
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Competency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to use Park District registration and payroll software
  • Ability to prepare professional reports and correspondence
  • Experience in planning and coordinating programs and special events
  • Knowledge of supervising and guiding staff
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required or ability to obtain within 60 days
  • Knowledge of child development and curriculum development concepts

Job Duties

  • Serve as an on-site supervisor for Day Camp
  • Manage daily program operations
  • Supervise and support staff
  • Ensure child safety and supervision standards
  • Address parent and camper concerns in coordination with Youth Recreation Supervisor
  • Assist with CARE before/after school program administrative duties
  • Serve as primary substitute for Site Directors
  • Work within the program daily to support early release schedules
  • Support staff in behavior management
  • Develop, oversee, and evaluate Days Off and Parents’ Night Out programs
  • Plan age-appropriate activities and schedules
  • Coordinate staff and volunteers
  • Manage registration and waitlists
  • Provide clear communication to parents and staff
  • Manage administrative tasks including attendance forms, incident reports, and schedules
  • Research, plan, and coordinate field trips and entertainment
  • Oversee annual Day Camp swim tests and Open House
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff and volunteers
  • Schedule staff for Days Off and Parents’ Night Out programs
  • Support staff development with training, coaching, and feedback
  • Maintain positive relationships with program families
  • Assist with brochure content and registration software
  • Collaborate with Warren Special Recreation Association for Inclusion services
  • Assist with Gurnee Days Activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
