Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • four years of full-time substance abuse treatment experience
  • current licensure as Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor or Qualified Credentialed Counselor
  • valid CPR and first aid certifications
  • valid Texas driver's license
  • willingness to work full-time Monday to Friday
  • ability to manage complex counseling tasks
  • strong organizational and communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • major coursework in criminal justice or behavioral science preferred
  • four years of full-time experience in substance abuse treatment
  • current licensure as Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor by Texas DSHS or valid Qualified Credentialed Counselor
  • therapeutic community environment experience preferred
  • experience supervising employees preferred
  • current CPR and first aid certifications
  • valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record

Job Duties

  • Assist in planning chemical dependency counseling programs
  • coordinate delivery of counseling services to offenders with chemical use histories
  • provide comprehensive evaluations using valid assessment tools
  • participate in developing individual treatment plans
  • provide counseling and recovery skills training
  • participate in offender orientation and group counseling
  • maintain a therapeutic community environment within the facility
  • maintain offender and program records and compile data
  • develop Individual Progress Summaries for offenders
  • submit Individual Progress Summaries to Parole Division
