Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years relevant work experience
- HS diploma or equivalent
- Specialized training in culinary arts
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to manage non-exempt unionized staff
- Physical ability to lift 20 to 30 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to work in environments with wet floors, temperature extremes, and noise
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Must be legally authorized to work on-site at the Harvard campus
- Ability to undergo pre-employment screening including criminal background, drug testing, and identity verification
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience
- HS diploma or equivalent and specialized training in culinary arts
- Progressive culinary management experience preferred
- Experience in collegiate residential or restaurant environment preferred
- Knowledge of world cuisines preferred
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Experience managing unionized workforce
- Experience in kosher kitchen preferred
- Knowledge of Kronos timekeeping software
- Knowledge of FoodPro Menu Management system
- Operational knowledge of industrial kitchen equipment
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Commitment to the highest standards of kashrut
- Good professional judgment and decision making
- Adaptability in changing environments
- Ability to become ServSafe certified within six months
- Ability to learn new systems and applications
Job Duties
- Manage food production and special events preparation
- Lead and inspire a team of culinary staff
- Ensure daily food preparation and presentation meets quality and cost standards
- Implement food safety, sanitation, and maintenance policies
- Assist with FoodPro menu and inventory management system
- Plan menus for unit and catered events
- Execute catered events including campus-wide and commencement events
- Maintain kitchen equipment and physical space
- Manage linens, china, glassware, and food provisions for functions
- Supervise event staff
- Develop positive community relationships and provide outstanding customer service
- Execute dining hall opening and closing procedures
- Assist with annual budget development and management
- Ensure compliance with fiscal policies and reporting
- Provide leadership to unionized workforce
- Assist with hiring and evaluations
- Implement staff training programs
- Communicate performance expectations and conduct coaching
- Enforce corrective actions and partake in grievance processes
- Manage timekeeping and payroll processing
- Fill vacant shifts as needed
