Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in kitchen management or as a sous chef
  • familiarity with Department of Health and Environmental Control regulations
  • ability to stand for extended periods
  • food handler certification preferred
  • excellent communication skills
  • ability to work flexible hours
  • passion for hospitality and resident-focused service

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in a similar culinary role, preferably in a health care or retirement community setting
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • ability to work flexible shifts including mornings and evenings
  • strong leadership and team supervision skills
  • good organizational and inventory management skills
  • capable of training and mentoring kitchen staff
  • understanding of menu planning and recipe standardization

Job Duties

  • Assists in the planning, scheduling and supervising of kitchen personnel
  • assists in the development of all menus and assures implementation and production of these menus consistent with Kitchen Managers expectations
  • assures staff education is provided to kitchen employees in accordance with the staff education program
  • provides on-the-job training for food preparation and kitchen employees
  • develops work assignments for all kitchen personnel, assigning special jobs and spot checking work to ensure standards are met
  • assists in all ordering, receiving and proper storage of all food and supplies
  • supervises production, sanitation and food service to apartment residents and Health Center residents
  • handles inventory controls and maintains minimum/maximum par levels
  • monitors all line checks, temperature logs and systems pertaining to the kitchen operation
  • leads in the development and implementation of standardized recipes and menu specifications
  • performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
  • ensures all DHEC controls are in place including cleanliness, sanitation, proper heating and cooling, and proper holding of products in all coolers and freezers
