Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in education, business administration, hospitality management, marketing, or related field required
- Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible, senior-level leadership experience in retail, hospitality, auxiliary services, or financial operations
- Experience leading large teams and managing multi-million-dollar budgets
- Demonstrated experience partnering with college students or student organizations
- Ability to work onsite full time at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus
- Occasional evening and weekend work required
- Some overnight travel may be required
- Position not eligible for work authorization sponsorship
- Must comply with university policies and employment mandates
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Marketing, or related field
- Eight years of senior-level leadership experience in retail, hospitality, auxiliary, or financial operations
- Experience managing large teams and multi-million-dollar budgets
- Demonstrated ability to lead innovation and change in retail or auxiliary services
- Proven track record of partnering with college students or student organizations
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Higher Education, Hospitality, or related field preferred
- Experience working with collective bargaining employees preferred
- Relevant professional certifications in retail management, project management, or hospitality preferred
- Strategic thinking and ability to translate vision into measurable plans
- Expertise in organizational planning and financial management
- Proficiency with business technologies and data analytics
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with inclusive leadership style
Job Duties
- Provide strategic leadership and visionary innovation for Illini Union retail portfolio
- Use data analytics and market research to identify trends and guide retail operations
- Lead and coach professional staff and student employees with an inclusive leadership approach
- Conduct long-range strategic planning and align retail goals with university mission
- Develop and enforce policies and operational frameworks ensuring compliance and excellence
- Manage a $21 million retail budget with financial forecasting, P&L oversight, and capital planning
- Maintain collaborative relationships with campus stakeholders and student groups to enhance retail services
- Oversee vendor contracts, leases, and partnerships to maximize value and support strategic growth
- Participate in university committees and represent Illini Union retail operations at executive levels
- Foster student leadership development through retail projects and mentorship
