Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age at time of appointment
- possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification or equivalent
- physical capability to pass pre-employment Lifeguard swim test
- pass Department of Children and Family Services background check upon hire and as requested
- hold American Red Cross certification in adult, infant and child CPR, AED and First Aid upon hire
- Swim Instructors must have Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent
- ability to perform physically demanding tasks including swimming to a depth of 16 feet
- able to lift, carry, push or pull 50 pounds without assistance
- ability to climb stairs and ladders up to 35 feet
- conform to grooming and dress code
- willingness to work outdoors under varying climatic conditions and outside regular business hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
Job Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age at time of appointment
- possess an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification or equivalent
- physical capability to pass the pre-employment Lifeguard swim test
- pass the Department of Children and Family Services background check upon hire and as requested
- American Red Cross certification in CPR, AED and First Aid required
- prior lifeguarding experience preferred
- basic knowledge of water safety principles
- understanding of State Public Swimming Pool codes and OSHA regulations
- ability to communicate effectively with diverse ages and abilities
- skills to provide individual and group instruction in aquatic activities
- ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and employees
- Swim Instructor applicants must also possess American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent
Job Duties
- Maintain alertness at all times while observing patrons in and around the facility
- enforce all rules, regulations and procedures governing the City of Gainesville's aquatic facilities including health, safety and building codes
- rescue swimmers in distress and administer first aid, CPR or AED when necessary
- report all incidents and accidents to the designated supervisor and complete accident reports
- monitor activities, special events and programs at pool facilities and assist as needed
- perform general janitorial and attendant work including setting up before events and cleaning the pool and deck areas
- monitor and perform minor maintenance on equipment and facilities and report any damages
- collect entrance or equipment rental fees and handle transactions accurately
- check chemical status of the pool and add chemicals when needed in absence of supervisor
- attend in-service training sessions as scheduled
- assist swim instructors with teaching Red Cross swimming and water safety courses
- inform supervisor of any problems or changes regarding facility operation
- prevent unauthorized persons from entering the facility
- move and lift heavy equipment as needed
- attend work regularly and assist supervisor in any phase of pool operation not outlined above
