Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • three years paraprofessional, technical experience in commercial, municipal planning, and customer service
  • valid driver’s license
  • acceptable driving record according to city policies
  • ability to perform a variety of duties and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • ability to maintain confidentiality of information and data
  • ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • ability to operate relevant tools, equipment, and motorized vehicles safely
  • ability to navigate across even and uneven surfaces
  • willingness to work occasional hours beyond normal business hours
  • regular attendance
  • subject to drug testing per applicable regulations and policies

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or GED
  • three years paraprofessional, technical experience in commercial, municipal planning, and customer service
  • valid driver’s license
  • bilingual skills preferred
  • ICC Permit Technician Certification preferred
  • knowledge of principles, practices, techniques, rules, and regulations related to operations and functions of the position
  • skills in reading, understanding, and applying relevant rules, ordinances, codes, regulations
  • effective interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills
  • ability to effectively manage assignments
  • capability to work independently or as a team member
  • proficiency in preparing reports, documents, and correspondence
  • experience in research, data analysis, and record maintenance
  • competent in operating a personal computer with generic and specialized software

Job Duties

  • assist and support front desk operations
  • process construction plans for commercial buildings
  • maintain orderly and efficient tracking system for building permits
  • coordinate business registrations and planning-related development applications
  • provide senior level technical support for special projects
  • administer permit and registration tracking software
  • issue construction permits for commercial and residential builds, business registrations, and licenses
  • conduct onsite inspections for new and renewing business registrations
  • deliver and provide exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment
  • respond to internal and external inquiries related to planning and zoning, business registrations, building inspection activity, and permit history request
  • address issues with commercial developments and work closely with contractors, developers, and related personnel
  • receive, review, and process documents and applications
  • review applications for completeness, accurately calculate and track applicable fees and credits
  • create and maintain accurate and detailed records of building, subdivision, and business registration files
  • participate in data collection, computer data entry, report generation, and coordination between planners, inspectors, developers, consultants, contractors, and the general public
  • schedule, coordinate, and track inspection activity for inspectors
  • perform cashier duties including operating a cash register/cashbox
  • accurately receive and process cash, credit card, and check payments
  • issue receipts to customers remitting payments
  • balance cash drawer daily and correct errors
  • maintain accurate and detailed records of daily financial activities
  • perform daily bank run with deposits
  • provide administrative support services to higher level techs, planners, and inspectors on various projects and/or activities
  • assist with property research, mailings, and windshield surveys within scope of authority and training
