Job Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Clean driving record with no DUI or DWI
  • Pass background check
  • Ability to report to work on time in hospital-issued uniform with visible ID
  • Physically qualified to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to operate vehicles in inclement weather, mountainous areas, and on loose surfaces
  • Ability to load, secure, and transport light cargo and supplies
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Must notify Transportation Department of any license revocation or suspension, delivery issues, or vehicle damage immediately
  • Maintain and inspect vehicle for operational safety
  • Ability to change tires, pump gas, and add vehicle fluids when needed
  • Keep hospital-issued cellphone charged and accessible

Job Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years old
  • Must be able to read and comprehend a road map and prepare accident reports
  • Must be able to read line number eleven of the New York Motor Vehicle Eye Chart with corrective lenses
  • No previous experience necessary, training provided
  • Possess New York State Class 4 License
  • Completed New York Defensive Driving Course Certificate
  • High School diploma or GED

Job Duties

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees
  • Contribute to and participate in performance/quality improvement activities including risk management and claims activities
  • Report to work in full dress and on time
  • Inspect assigned vehicle periodically for fluid leaks, body damage, and deficiencies and record on vehicle log sheet
  • Inspect assigned vehicle for damage throughout the detail
  • Transport deliveries to hospital facilities on every trip
  • Hand deliver items personally to addressee
  • Obtain signatures for delivery items that require it and submit receipts to the office
  • Clean and inspect vehicle including tires, light beams, horn, and brakes
  • Assist in loading and unloading materials, equipment, and passengers
  • Maintain driver's license on person during working hours
  • Operate vehicle in various weather and terrain conditions
  • Change tires, pump gas, and add vehicle fluids as needed
  • Notify Transportation Department immediately about license issues, delivery problems, or vehicle malfunctions
  • Submit vehicle log sheets daily and prepare pre-trip inspections
  • Keep hospital-issued cellphone charged and accessible
